Kelly Stephens
Kelly Stephens went to both Ranger and Cisco High Schools and between the two she played varsity volleyball for one year and varsity basketball, softball & track all four years. While in high school, she received many awards including 1st Team All-District, 2nd Team All-Area, 2nd Team All-Region, District Offensive MVP and All-State Honorable Mention in basketball, and District & Regional Championships in track for the shot put, placing 6th overall at the state track meet. After high school, Kelly received a dual scholarship to play basketball & softball at Cisco Junior College. She played one year there before transferring to Tarleton State University where she continued to play basketball for two more years.
After graduating in 2004 with a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Studies, Kelly began working as the Sports Director at the YMCA in Victoria, TX. She then transferred to the YMCA in Grand Prairie to continue as the Sports Director there. In the fall of 2007, she got her first teaching & coaching position at Lakehill Preparatory School in Dallas as a K-12 PE teacher and the assistant volleyball, head basketball and head softball coach. Kelly moved to the Austin Area in the summer of 2009 and became the head volleyball and basketball coach at Summit Christian Academy in Cedar Park. Within her two years at SCA, Kelly turned a volleyball program that had only won two games prior to her arrival into District Champs, Bi-District Champs and Area Finalists. She also began building the girl's basketball program from the ground up. Kelly received her teaching certificate in the summer of 2010 in K-12 Physical Education and is now trying to get into teaching and coaching in the public school system.
This will be her first year coaching with the Austin Lady Magic and is excited to get started. It is her goal to not only make her athletes better basketball players but to make them better people.
