MATTHEW BUTLER
Coach Matthew Butler earned Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Texas A&M-University Commerce and has been coaching and teaching for 11 years at both the Middle School and High School levels.
Coach Butler begins his first season of Lady Magic Basketball with a very successful coaching record in girl's basketball. After coaching middle school basketball for 5 years in Frisco ISD (located in the North Dallas area), Butler earned his first Varsity Head Girls Basketball position in 2005 in a small school in West Texas. While in West Texas, Coach Butler actively pursued learning from legendary "Hall of Fame" Coach Joe Lombard at Canyon.
In 2007, Coach Butler led the Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs to a 32-5 season culminating with a District Championship, Regional Championship, and State Semi-Final appearance.
In that same year Butler was named "All East Texas Coach of the Year" by the Sports Writers in the Longview News Journal. Over the last three years Coach Butler has led the Lady Pirates of Crandall to 3 consecutive District Championships, an Area Championship, and most recently a Regional OT loss to the State Champions of 2010.
Coach Butler was named "All-District" Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
Coach Butler's basketball philosophy passionately focuses on playing fast and aggressive basketball, utilizing fundamental team play and stifling man defense.
